Perhaps SNL needs to leave political news to Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert. While the opening sketch of last Saturday’s episode skewered President Barack Obama for what it said was doing “nothing” so far, CNN decided to fact check their assertions, and went to the non-partisan website Politifact.com.
Bill Adair, the editor of Politifact.com said that SNL was off the mark on a few of the failed initiatives on their checklist, including Afghanistan (“a promise kept”), Iraq (“not done, but they hadn’t promised to be done by now”) and health care (“incorrect, since it’s stalled in Congress”). He did, however, say SNL was correct on closing the detention center at Guantanamo Bay, or the lack thereof.
“This is not a fair portrayal of how Obama’s done, but it’s comedy, it doesn’t have to be fair.”
