With the 25th anniversary of the Chernobyl Disaster occurring today, April 26, the girls of FEMEN visited the border of Chernobyl’s exclusion zone. Holding signs "Killed by the Peaceful Atom", the girls would like to pay homage to the fallen of Chernobyl, and remind the world that such disasters are far from over.

As we have seen with Fukushima, another disaster like this is a just around the corner. Those that died in Chernobyl are still sorely missed, but many of the survivors aren’t fairing much better. The young that lived in the affected area are suffering from cancer, while the Ukrainian government steal the international aid aimed at helping. 

If the international community would pressure the Ukrainian government to act, rather than simply turning a blind eye after giving aid, those that suffer today would have a fighting chance. Unfortunately, the hospitals are filled with victims, while the Ukrainian government have already passed a death sentence.
