Arifinto, 50-year old Indonesian parliament member from Prosperous Justice Party, was caught watching porn video on his tablet computer during a parliamentary debate.

The scandal was worse for the MP as he helped pass a tough anti-pornography law in Indonesia.

The law calls for prison terms of up to 15 years and fines for everything from kissing in public and exposure of a woman’s “sensual” body parts to displaying “erotic” artworks. Broadcasting, possessing and storing pornographic material also is prohibited.Source: www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk

Imparsial executive director Poengky Indarti said that legislators who do not subscribe to teaching public morality do not belong in the House of Representatives.

“A representative for the people opens a porn site during a plenary session. We are disappointed. If he said it was because he was bored, okay, that’s human. But [what he did] only showed that he merely had a dirty mind. We are disappointed with that kind of behavior from a legislator. He should be dismissed. A House member with such an immoral mind is undeserving,” Poengky said, as quoted by kompas.com.Source: news.asiaone.com

As a result Arifinto resigned and apologised to his constituent.

“It’s my decision,” said the father of five, insisting he was not acting on the orders of his party. “Nobody tried to coerce me.”Source: www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk

Arifinto claimed that he had received an email with a link that turned out to be a porn clip when he opened it but the Muhammad Irfan, Media Indonesia photographer who caught him in action, claimed that he has strong evidence  that Arifinto selected the clip from an existing folder within his tablet computer.

“Yes, it was me. I received an email, and there was a link, but it turned out to be one of those movies,” the clearly embarrassed legislator desperately defended himself before journalists after photographers caught him red-handed watching a porn clip on his tablet computer while attending a House plenary session on Thursday.

“I am afraid I was photographed as a trap against me aimed at killing [my political career] although I never saw the clip,” Arifinto said.

However, the photographer who captured the moment insisted he had strong evidence that Arifinto, a legislator from the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), intentionally searched for the porn clip and did not stumble upon it by accident as Arifinto insists. He also denied he was part of a plot against the politician.

The photographer recounted that the legislator was sitting in the left wing at the back row of the House. He said he saw Arifinto select a porn clip from a folder on his tablet.

“I have the proof at my office. The video was not from an email [as claimed]. He took two minutes selecting the one-minute clip,” Media Indonesia photographer Muhammad Irfan said.Source: www.thejakartapost.com

Anti porn laws are strict in Indonesia as they were used to sentence Nazril “Ariel” Irham, lead singer of the country’s most popular band Peterpan, to 40 months in jail for home-made sex tapes, and sentenced chief of Playboy Indonesia to two years in jail.

Hypocrisy at its best?
