Though the Turkish president and PM refused to meet Ehud Barak, the Turkish foreign minister spent a whopping 3.5 hours with him. Turkey remains open to Israel while at the same time spouting anti-Israeli rhetoric for Arab consumption.
As we have seen in Palestine and elsewhere, politics eventually follow rhetoric.
Erdogan could not afford to embrace Barak after Israeli media trumpeted Ayalon’s humiliation of the Turkish ambassador. It is important to realize that Turkey was not reacting to the humiliation per se, but rather to Israeli coverage of it.
