A 24-year old man from Warren (Michigan), is accused of driving a pickup truck without brakes resulting into crashing into at least 4 other cars. He thought that he can imitate Fred Flintstone and stop the car using his feet!

The 24-year-old man attempted to drive home in a vehicle that had no brakes at about 5:45 p.m. Wednesday, said Roseville Deputy Police Chief James Berlin.

The man was traveling in the area of Interstate 696 and Groesbeck Highway, he said. He was sticking his feet out of the vehicle door to slow and stop the vehicle when necessary — “moronic decision-making,” according to Berlin.

But he was unable to stop the vehicle when he got to the intersection of Groesbeck and 13 Mile, officials said. His vehicle went through the crossing and struck two vehicles, Berlin said. The damage was minor and no one was injured.

He continued on and tried to use his feet to stop the vehicle as he approached the intersection of Groesbeck and Utica Road. Again unable to stop, he struck two more vehicles.

Berlin said the man was not intoxicated or under the influence of any drugs.

The suspect told police he was tired and was trying to drive home because he had to be at work the next morning. He also told officers his brakes first failed at 11 Mile and Bunert in Warren, but he opted to continue driving home instead of parking the vehicle and calling for help, officials said.

He is reported to drive at about 40 mph.

Witnesses said the man reached speeds of about 40 mph and was able to stop the car on at least two occasions. The car eventually struck four vehicles.

“This guy’s no rocket scientist,” Berlin said. “Citizens were calling in saying this guy is all over the road, using his feet.”

He struck two vehicles after being unable to stop at a red light, and continued on. An officer who pulled next to the man’s car told him to shift into “park,” but that didn’t work and he rolled into two other vehicles before the car stopped.

“He said he was going to fix the brakes when he got home,” Berlin said.
