Catherine Zeta-Jones has reportedly checked herself into a mental health facility to treat bipolar II disorder.

Bipolar II disorder. Bipolar II is less severe than bipolar I. You may have an elevated mood, irritability and some changes in your functioning, but generally you can carry on with your normal daily routine. Instead of full-blown mania, you have hypomania — a less severe form of mania. In bipolar II, periods of depression typically last longer than periods of hypomania.Source:

The disorder is reportedly due to the past year’s stress of husband Michael Douglas’ cancer.

“After dealing with the stress of the past year, Catherine made the decision to check into a mental health facility for a brief stay to treat her Bipolar II Disorder. She’s feeling great and looking forward to starting work this week on her two upcoming films.”

Perhaps exacerbated by other stressors, Zeta-Jones recently (but understandably) lost her composure when she was swarmed by a pack of photogs in London and punched by an aggressive paparazzo after attending a ceremony honoring her film and charitable work.

Her upcoming movies include – “Playing the Field” and “Lay the Favorite.”
