Most people who have hip surgery opt for a nice, comfortable, FREE wheelchair to shlep them around for a few days (or weeks) while their hip recovers. Not Lady Gaga, that would be sacriliage! Instead, she contacted famed jewlery designer Ken Borochov to put together a lavish wheelchair covered in 24 karat gold, one that would be elegant and comfortable. Well, I can say that in regards to elegance, she should definitely be happy.
“It was a huge undertaking,” Borochov told The Daily Beast of Gaga’s commission. He created the chair using manufacturers around the country, finishing the gold and tufted leather masterpiece (complete with a removable canopy) only on Sunday evening. “It was made all over the United States. My assistant had to run around everywhere,” Borochov explained. “I make all of my things here in the US.” In fact 1.5 ounces of gold were plated onto the chair “in Dallas at a customizing car factory that does hot rods and stuff. I wanted [the wheelchair] to look like a throne.”Source: www.thedailybeast.com
How much did she spend on this pimped out ride? Who knows, but lets be honest, she has more than enough money to buy a fleet of these, maybe even one for every wheelchair bound kid in America.
